May 14,  · Dub quickly became a sub-genre of Reggae as many artists would collaborate with dub producers and remix their classic reggae tunes. Dub became so well-known that it influenced the sounds of bands like the Clash or Sublime, but today we’re gonna stick to strictly roots dub of Jamaica: #5.

Dub music is characterized by a "version" or "double" of an existing song, often instrumental, initially almost always pressed on the B-sides of 45 RPM records and typically emphasizing the drums and bass for a sound popular in local sound systems.A "version" is an alternative cut of a song made for the DJ to "toast" over (a form of Jamaican rapping), usually with some or all of the original.

In tribute, we’ve collected together 50 killer dub albums. Many of them are seminal, proto-dub records by JA originators like Lee Perry, King Tubby, Prince Jammy and others, but we’ve also included some classics plucked from the “dub diaspora” – the second wave of dub music that emerged in the UK with pioneers like Adrian Sherwood (On U Sound), Jah Shaka, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Mad.

A landmark for this Dub band from Vienna, formed in , Dubblestandart are one of the leaders of the 21st-century dub movement. Taking Jean-Michelle Jarre’s Oxygene part 4, and producing a reggae edit with one of the all time great dub legends Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, is a work of genius.
